Hi, I’m Bas Knuttel, initiator of State of Tango. For me, tango is a pure flow activity. Many of my primary interests like dance, music, history, teaching, art of living, communication, travelling, friendship and love come together in a beautiful way in tango. And the more time I spend on it… the more energy I seem to get!
I started dancing in 2001, teaching in 2005 and I started State of Tango in 2012 after deepening my tango skills and knowledge for an entire year (2011) in Buenos Aires.
My specialisme is tango salón and I took classes with many world class tango icons (maestros) of different generations, such as Carlitos Perez, Milena Plebs, Geraldin Rojas, Sebastian Arce and many, many others.
I’ve teached and performed with Argentine dancers Anabel Saldaña Martinez, Eugenia Brandulo, Anakarla Romero and Eliana Sanchez and with Dutch dancers such as my wife Mariyana Aksu, Maureen van Althuis and Anita van der Helm.
In august 2011 I took part in the Mundial de tango salón (World championships of tango) in Buenos Aires with my wife Mariyana Aksu (as first Dutch couple ever, representing Amsterdam), and in 2012 I represented Rosario, Argentina, together with Anabel Saldaña Martinez (Ar).
Both my dance and teaching style reflect a profound understanding of the structure of the dance, a strong felt passion for improvised social tango and my passionate character.
